Sermon from 02/03/13-Wrecked! Samson

Date 2013-02-03

In our February 3rd sermon at Imprint Church, we learned about a Judge named Samson. Most people are very familiar with the story of this man with amazing strength who is seduced by Delilah into giving away the secret of his power. But if we look a level deeper, we see that the true story is a tragedy about a man who was pre-ordained by God to do incredible things for Israel but never rose up to his potential.

Wrecked! Jephthah in the Book of Judges

Date 2013-01-27

In the book of Judges we see a recurring cycle with the Israelites of: Sin > Repentance > Deliverance > Peace, then the cycle starts over.

As we continue our study of the book of Judges at Imprint Church we get to Jephthah. This is the story of a man who offers only part of his life to God. While Jephthah succeeds in winning a war against the Ammonites and becoming the leader of Israel, he also succumbs to making a rash vow to God, resulting in the loss of his only daughter.

Here are some of the key points from this week’s sermon on Jephthah along with the time in the recording where you can learn more about it:
1.God’s approval in one area of our life is no guarantee of His approval in all the areas of our life. (8:08)
2.God wants all of us today. God wants our hearts, our minds, our actions… He wants it all. (11:40)
3.If this is the kind of story that makes you say, “I don’t want to follow a God like that.” But let us set something straight … Description does not equal Prescription in the bible. (24:10)
4.Just because there are areas of our life where we have victory, doesn’t mean that every area of our life will have victory as well. (31:35)
5.Don’t we all have areas of our life that we don’t allow God to rule? Where we make our own decisions? We leave God out because we can think we can do it on our own. (31:36)
6.Following Jesus part-way is like taking up smoking to lose weight. It doesn’t make sense. (39:20)

Wrecked Barak Deborah

Date 2013-01-20

Imprint Church in Woodinville continued with the “Wrecked!” sermon series this week by looking at Judges 4-5. In this section of the book of Judges, we are introduced God’s chosen Judge Barak. Barak had been instructed by God to lead the armies of Zebulon and Naphtali against Sisera’s forces to break the Israelites free from 20 years of oppression. But Barak didn’t go right away. Instead, he had to be prompted by Deborah, the other judge in this story.

Barak’s flaws that we read about in Judges 4-5 are very similar to one of the most common struggles we have in our own lives… we fear men more than we fear God. People are our idols and their opinions of us are given more importance than our obedience to God.

Here are some of the key points from this week’s sermon along with the time in the recording where you can learn more about it:
1.People are generally more concerned with their reputation than their character. Often this is an issue of respecting people rather, or more than, God. (21:40)
2.Most of our lives are spent creating and defending an identity that will fail at some time or another. (32:46)
3.God will use available people who are not concerned with their own reputation to accomplish his purposes. (39:35)
4.We need to receive our identity and validation from the Lord, not from other people. (41:40)

Wrecked! Your Cheatin’ Heart.

Date 2013-01-13

This week in Woodinville our sermon was delivered by our special guest, Jon Furman. Jon is the associate pastor at Willamette Christian Church in West Linn, Oregon and long time friend of Pastor Darren Larson at Imprint Church.
In our second sermon of the, “Wrecked! The Book of Judges” series, we look at the life of Gideon. Gideon was a man chosen by God to rescue the Israelites from the invading Midianite and Amalekite armies. If this were Sunday School, we would probably just tell the story of his army of 300 defeating an army of 100,000 by trusting in God’s strength. But there is a second side to that story that needs to be examined. After Gideon’s victory, a downward spiral begins where we see Gideon making the exact same mistakes we make in our own personal lives.

01/06/13 Wrecked! An Overview of Judges

Date 2013-01-08

We started a new series this week at Imprint Church in Woodinvillle, WA called, “Wrecked!” It’s a study of some of the main events and characters in the book of Judges, one of the most gruesome and dark books in the entire Bible. It is the story of people’s self-destruction when they cycle further and further into the abyss of their own terrible decisions. Judges really is a book about God delivering his people from those messes they create.
