Revelation - The Defeat of Death - Darren Larson

Date 2016-11-28

Judgment. Death. Hell. These words seem so ominous. However, when you get to the end of Revelation, they are words that actually bring hope for Christians. Why? Because Jesus is our good judge who judges without impartiality and His judgment of a believer’s life is based on the merit of Christ. Moreover, for those in Christ, death and hell are literally thrown into a lake of fire at the end of Revelation 20, and are destroyed. If these are true, why do the realities of Christ’s judgment, death, and hell even mean anything to us today? For one, we find out in Revelation 20 that there are a couple books representing the perfect memory of God, and they are open to pave the way for the judgment of Christ. One of these books is the book of life that holds the names of all believers who will spend eternity with Jesus. The other is a record of all the works Christians have done, both good and bad. And Jesus judges, and even rewards, believers based on the way they have responded to Christ’s commands and words. In other words, Christ’s judgment, death, and the reality of hell should compel us to live different and proclaim the realities of the gospel to anyone we can. Join us on Sunday at 9:00 or 10:45 AM to hear about our response to this, and worship together!
